AB - More than 19,000 people were questioned about their health status, well-being, lifestyle and living conditions for the Robert Koch Institute’s survey “German Health Update 2012” (Gesundheit in Deutschland aktuell 2012, GEDA). The study was conducted between February 2012 and March 2013 as part of the Robert Koch Institute’s nationwide health monitoring with support of the German Federal Ministry of Health. Trend analyses of selected indicators show that the sports and exercise participation has increased and the smoking prevalence has decreased among adults since 2003. In contrast, the prevalence of some chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, asthma bronchiale or arthrosis has increased in the population. This increase in diabetes mellitus and asthma bronchiale still remains when controlling for the increasing proportion of older people in the population during the analyses. One tenth of the respondents repetitively report mental disorders. In general, the vast majority of the population enjoys a state of good health over time. More than 30 health-relevant topics ranging from asthma and diabetes to dental care and vaccinations are displayed in fact sheets, in which the results of the study are shown in tables stratified by age, sex and education. In addition, regional differences are identified, key points elaborated and the results evaluated. The fact sheets are completed by a comparison of selected health indicators of the years 2003 to 2012.
