The habilitation thesis focuses on arbovirus-induced disease of the central nervous system, with emphasis on those agents important and emerging in Europe, by giving an overview of their epidemiology, diagnostics, and surveillance. These are: West Nile virus (WNV), Toscana virus (TOSV), and tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV). The published studies selected are all part of activities within the European Network for Diagnostics of ‘Imported’ Viral Diseases (ENIVD) and/or the German Consultant Laboratory for Tick-borne encephalitis and further flaviviruses.eng
