Cancer in Germany 2013/2014
Robert Koch-Institut
Every two years the Association of Population-based Cancer Registries in Germany (GEKID) and the German Centre for Cancer Registry Data (ZfKD) at the Robert Koch Institute jointly publish the Cancer in Germany report. The results presented in this 11th edition are based on epidemiological cancer registry data up to the year 2014. According to ZfKD estimates, there were around 476,000 new cases of cancer in Germany that year. In women, breast cancer continues to be most common (around 69,200 cases), whereas in men the most common form is prostate cancer (around 57,400 cases). Between 2004 and 2014 it was mainly the demographic shifts of an ageing society that led the number of new cancer cases to increase. Standardised for age, the figures show the rates for men have actually decreased by 10 % and those for women by 3 %. Beyond the results included in this edition, further analyses are avail able at: www.krebsdaten.de/english.
