Since the begining of the COVID-19 pandemic, an increase in all-cause mortality has been observed in many countries worldwide (1), which can be explained largely—although not entirely—by deaths due to COVID-19. The extent to which an increase in mortality due to major non-communicable diseases (NCD) has contributed to the excess mortality during the pandemic in Germany remains uncertain and thus has been investigated in the present analysis.eng
