| ger |
| dc.description.abstract | Human papillomavirus (HPV) infections are among the most common sexually transmitted infections in Germany (and worldwide). It is estimated that over 80% of sexually active people will be infected with HPV at least once in their lifetime. Clinical symptoms range from asymptomatic infections and skin manifestations to rare HPV-related diseases, precancerous lesions and carcinomas. To date, there is no specific antiviral treatment for HPV infections. The most important primary preventive measure is HPV vaccination. The RKI guideline provides a detailed overview of the characteristics of the pathogen, its occurrence, clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and infection control and hygiene measures. | eng |
