Die Syphilis ist eine durch Treponema pallidum verursachte Erkrankung, die nur beim Menschen vorkommt und sexuell, durch Blut und intrauterin von der Mutter auf das Kind übertragen wird. Sie verläuft typischerweise in drei Stadien und kann durch Antibiotika geheilt werden, wobei wiederholte Infektionen möglich sind. Im Jahr 2024 wurden dem Robert Koch-Institut 9.519 Syphilis-Fälle gemeldet - ein neuer Höchststand in Deutschland. Im Jahr 2023 wurden 9.159 Fälle gemeldet. In 2024, 9,519 cases of syphilis were reported to the Robert Koch Institute — a new record high in Germany. In 2023, 9,159 cases were reported.
